That’s what makes us Genentech.\n\nA postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Johnston within Translational Medicine Oncology at Genentech. Our laboratory is dedicated to conducting translational research in lung cancer, focusing on mechanisms of response and resistance to treatment, patient biomarkers and subsets, and tumor-host interactions. We utilize a deep collection of patient samples and clinical data and state-of-the-art omics techniques and preclinical models to generate new insights into disease biology and emerging therapies. \n\nThe Opportunity:\n\n- To lead an independent, end-to-end translational research program investigating immune fitness - the functional capacity of circulating immune cells - as a determinant and biomarker of response to immune checkpoint inhibitor (CPI) therapy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).\n- To leverage large, clinically annotated NSCLC trial cohorts and state-of-the-art omics technologies.\n- To collaborate widely and cross-functionally with colleagues at Genentech, including molecule development teams.\n- To participate in Genentech’s postdoctoral training program, which offers outstanding training and mentorship, opportunities to present work internally and externally, career development support, and exposure to an environment focused on drug development and breakthrough discoveries.\n\nWho You Are:\n\n- You have a Ph.D. in Immunology, Cancer Biology, Systems Biology, with a proven track record of high impact research accomplishments.\n- You have advanced at least one project as evidenced by a first author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal.\n- You are a highly independent and driven scientist who enjoys working at the bench and the computer.\n- You have a strong passion for scientific research\n- Knowledge and hands-on experience in cancer immunology or related fields.\n- Ability to learn, adapt, and apply computational tools as part of an experimental research program.\n- You value careful experimental design, quantitative rigor, and clear biological interpretation.\n- You communicate effectively and thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n- Experience generating and analyzing single-cell transcriptomic or multi-omic data (e.g., scRNA-seq, CITE-seq, ATAC-seq) is highly desirable.\n- Experience investigating immune fitness and dysfunction using patient samples and/or preclinical models.\n- Experience integrating experimental and clinical datasets to address translational questions.\n\nFor information about the Johnston lab at Genentech, please visit:\n\nhttps://www.gene.com/scientists/our-scientists/robert-johnston\n\nhttps://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=g0ODkskAAAAJ\n\nThe expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco California is $100,00 to $106,500.
